After reading the required references, the resident will be able to  Identify and describe characteristics of common craniofacial anomalies. Explain genetic principles and inheritance patterns. Discuss the genetic factors that influence dental caries, periodontal disease, and malocclusion. Identify the Veau classifications of cleft lip and cleft palate. Explain how genetic factors influence cleft lip and cleft palate. Describe the multidisciplinary sequencing of treatment in cleft lip and palate management. Understand the DSM-5 changes to the definition of autism spectrum disorder. Identify the early signs of autism disorder. Identify comorbid conditions associated with autism spectrum disorder. Understand the oral health status (oral hygiene, gingival health, caries risk) and behavior of children with autism spectrum disorder.
