Context

William Golding's 1953 novel tells the story of a group of British schoolboys stranded on a desert island during wartime. The war they create among themselves becomes just as deadly as that is the outside world as the boys begin a process of devolution that ultimately sees them as nothing more than a tribe of bloodthirsty savages. This course presents an overview of Lord of the Flies exploring a chapter-by-chapter plot of the text. Main characters are considered. Major themes are discussed.
