    2. ileal remnant of vitello-intestinal duct
      1. contains ectopic gastric mucosa or pancreatic tissue
        1. should normally involute during late fetal development
        2. presentation
          1. most are asymptomatic
            1. can present w/ severe rectal bleeding
              1. but neither bright red nor true malaena
                1. painless
                  1. fresh
                    1. sufficient to cause drop in haemoglobin
                    2. intussusception
                      1. volvulus around a band
                        1. diverticulitis
                          1. mimics appendicitis
                            1. clinically indistinguishable
                              1. so is perforation of MD
                        2. Ix
                          1. Technetium scan

                            Anmerkungen:

                            • 99m-Tc- pertechnetate isotope scan
                            1. shows increased uptake by ectopic gastric mucosa in 70% of cases
                          2. Rx
                            1. surgical resection
                              1. laparotomy
                                1. indications: persistent or recurrent bleeding
                                  1. even if Tc scan is -ve
                            2. a cause of
