- The disease was spread by being in contact with people with the disease. It was the role of the priest to give a dying person their last rights to ensure they go to Heaven.

- This shows there was some knowledge that being in contact with people who are ill meant you might end up catching it

treat the plauge

- In India in 1897 there was a break out and the British had patents nursed in isolation. 20% of victims died rather then 90-100%
