1. All objects emit and absorb infared radiation
2. The hotter something is, the more IR it emits
3. Dark,matt surfaces are good absorbers and emitters of IR
4. Light,shiny surfaces are poor absorbers and emitters of IR, but reflect it well
Conduction and Convection
1. Conduction
  1. CONDUCTION OF HEAT IS WHEN VIBRATING PARTICLES PASS ON KE TO OTHER ONES.
  2. Occurs mainly in solids
    1. Works best in metals because of 'free electrons'
      1. Free electrons can move in the metals and they pass the KE around the metal onto other particles very quickly.
2. Convection
  1. LESS DENSE HOT PARTICLES RISE UP FORCING COLD ONES DOWN, THEN COOL AT THE TOP FLOATING DOWN AGAIN
    1. Works in liquids and gases
Evaporation and Condensation
1. Evaporation is when a liquid turns into a gas
  1. Evaporation happens faster when TEMPERATURE IS HIGHER, DENSITY IS LOWER SURFACE AREA IS LARGER.
2. Condensation is when a liquid turns into a gas
  1. Condensation is faster when GAS TEMPERATURE IS LOWER SURFACE TEMP IS LOWER DENSITY IS HIGHER
