- bacterial spores = hardest to kill, hence sterilization, not many disinfectants will kill them
- Viruses = not as hardy as bacterial spores, a few disinfectants will kill them
- fungi = easier to destroy than bacterial spores
- protozoa = not hardy, quite a few disinfectant will kill them
- aseptic = as clean as possible, no bacteria
- disinfectant efficiency - allow contact time (different for each one), rinse after
- different areas
- reception needs to look and smell clean
- different level of cleaning in each area according to purpose
- put bedding on a hot wash
- antiseptics
- chlorohexidine/biguanade - hibiscrub, dont use around eyes, works for up to 6 hours, fairly widespread acting, good for handwashing
- iodine - takes 2 minutes to start working, widespread acting
- alcohols - surgical spirtit, use last when prepping for surgery
