Zusammenfassung der Ressource
Alkanes - CnH2n+2
- Hydrocarbons
- Saturated, no double bonds
- Formed from crude oil
- Separated into fractions with different boiling points
- Via fractional distillation
- Used as fuels/ processed into petrochemicals
- Branching lowers VDW, less points of contact = lowered boiling points
- Long chains have more points of contact, so more VDW = higher boiling point
- Alkanes combust easily
- If not enough O2 incomplete combustion = CO
- CO lowers affinity of haemoglobin for O2 so respiring tissues dont get O2
- Straight chain hydrocarbons processed into branches
and cyclic, more efficiently combusted
- Catalytic cracking - long fractions passed over catalyst at high
temp/mod pressure, to form smaller molecules
- Catalyst cuts cost at lower temp/pressure, but speeds
up reaction
