Greetings and Introductions -

When meeting some for the first time there are many ways in which you can introduce yourself:

はじめまして　＝　Nice to meet you
Please to meet you/ take care of me

When using ’どうぞよろしく’ remember this is used when meeting someone for business purposes or introducing yourself in front of a class. When introducing yourself, asking the name of the other person or telling them your name helps get to know each other and make the conversation flow.

What is your name?
My name is...
私は...です　＝　I am
＝　and you?

Normal introductions throughout the day are:

おはようございます　＝　Good Morning
Good Afternoon
Good Evening
Hello (used only when greeting someone over the phone)

When departing there are many different ways to farewell someone:

さようなら　＝　Goodbye
Bye-Bye
See you tomorrow
See you later
