Predictive relationship between two stimuli: conditioning

Predictive relationship between action and outcome: conditioning

1

Timing is crucial in BOTH classical and operant conditioning.

1

The term '' describes the phenomenon that an association between two stimuli, a stimulus (CS2) and an stimulus (US) is impaired if, during the conditioning process, the CS2 is presented together with a second CS1 that has already been associated with the unconditioned stimulus.

The law of : Responses that produce a satisfying effect in a particular situation become likely to occur again in that situation, and responses that produce a discomforting effect become likely to occur again in that situation.

Dopamine is released from the midbrain (VTA and SNc) to large territories in the ( cortex, thalamus, cerebellum ) and the ( basal ganglia, brain stem, thalamus ).

VTA and SNc dopamine neurons are ( electrically coupled, independent ) and fire ( synchronously, asynchronously ).
