The term _____ is also used to refer to objects that are good conductors of electricity.
Conductors are rated and compared according to several different qualities. One such quality is _____.
_____ is a measure of how easily electric current passes through a material.
The most common conductor in industrial circuits is _______.
When certain metals are cooled to extremely low temperatures, they lose much of their resistance to electricity. This reaction is called ______.
When certain metals are cooled to extremely low temperatures, they lose much of their resistance to electricity. These certain metals are called ______.
There are two basic types of copper wire: ____ and ____.
_____ copper wire is used in the construction of panel boards for control systems.
_____ copper wire is used in most electrical circuits.
The average stranded copper wire contains ___ to ___ strands inside its insulating jacket.
To make copper wire, the copper is first _____ (or pulled) through a forming die to give it its diameter.
After the copper wire is extruded, it gets _____.
_____ is a process that heats and then cools copper wire to make it less brittle.
Before copper wire is enclosed in an insulating jacket, it's often run through a bath of molten solder. This process is called _____.
_____ has two advantages: it makes the wire easier to solder, and it helps prevent oxidation.
The size of an electrical conductor (ex. wire) is called its _____.
In the US, wire sizes are gaged and numbered according to the ________.
The abbreviation for American Wire Gage system is ____.
The ____ the gage number, the thicker the wire.
The ____ the gage number, the thinner the wire.
The ____ (smaller gage) the wire, the more current it can carry without overheating.
The largest available wires are gaged in ____ values.
The abbreviation MCM stands for _____________.
A ___ is a unit of measure equal to 0.001 inch.
A ______ is a unit used to measure the area of a wire.
The current-carrying capacity of a wire is called its _____.
