6. Ethanethiol: Also known as Ethyl Mercaptan, this is a clear liquid having a distinct smell. Ethanethiol is widely used in LPG cylinders to add that peculiar smell to the gas so that leakage could be detected. The industrial uses of Ethyl Mercaptan include its use as a ‘stench gas’ that is used in mines to alert the workers during an emergency.
