The Highway Code says that if someone is trying to overtake you, you should slow down to allow them to pass if necessary.
This sign means:
No overtaking
Right lane closed
Traffic signals in right lane ahead
Overtake with caution
In three of the five situations below, you are permitted to overtake on the left. Mark the TWO situations where you are NOT allowed to overtake on the left.
Passing a vehicle that has signalled to turn right, and you can overtake safely on the left
You are in a one-way street and can pass safely on the left.
There are two lanes of slow-moving traffic, and the lane to your right is moving more slowly the lane you are in,
When a driver in lane three of motorway is going slower than 70 mph
By using a bus lane when the driver ahead is slowing down to turn right.
Two cars have a head on smash. They are each travelling at 40 mph. The speed at which the gap between them will be closing is:
80 mph
60 mph
40 mph
The first question to ask yourself when thinking of overtaking is:
How fast will I have to go?
Do I need to overtake?
Will I crash if I overtake?
Can I overtake before the bend ahead?
