Willis-WC pupils can resist attempts at indoctrinating them into the myth of meritocracy (qualitative methods -PO+unstructured interviews) studied the counter-school culture of 12 WC 'lads' from school-work They were scornful of conformist boys+have their own intimidating humour of these boys and girls They flouted school rules+found school boring They reject the view that WC pupils can get MC jobs Similar to the culture of male manual workers Eg both see manual work as superior The boys identify with these men This explains why the boys slotted into the jobs capitalism needs to perform
