Farmed species must:
-grow well under captive conditions
-accept prepared i.e. non-living food
Water quality:
-o2 ~bubble o2 through and using stirring paddles
-algae filter out excess food and Nitrogeneous waste
Disease Control:
-close contact means disease spreads more quickly
-use antibiotics+fungicides
-remove dead and diseased fish
Why eat fish?
-Protein
-Vitamin D
-Omega 3
Advantages of Fish Farming:
-can selectively breed for larger fish
-not depleting wild fish stocks
-all same size/age
-guaranteed harvest (not larger)
Problems+Environmental Concerns
-disease can spread to wild population
-release of bacteria+Nitrogeneous waste and can cause o2 depletion + Eutrophication
