“evening came fast” – death, end of the day, end of his life approaching soon

“He looked out at the back of Lennie’s head, place where the spine and skull were joined” – the problem with Lennie is that although his body works fine his mind doesn’t, here Steinbeck shows us that what George is doing is just fixing the problem severing the link between mind and body

“Go on” – He repeats this, he is begging to die, he wants to go to his dream, to paradise

“Lennie giggled with happiness” – he is happy at the end, sense that what is happening is right, that he wants it,, although there is also the fact that he dosen’t understand what is happening and like a child is naïve about death, George is killing a helpless child

“For the rabbits, Lennie shouted.” – battle cry, desperate, strong

“Lennie obeyed” – dogs obey their masters, put down like a dog
