The Cell Important Things to Know:

In the human body, 40% of our body weight comes from intracellular fluid (ICF), or 24 liters. 16% of our body weight comes from interstitial fluid (IF). Plasma (blood) makes up only 4% of our body weight.
Intracellular and interstitial fluid are separated by the cell membrane. Interstitial fluid and plasma are separated by the border of the circulatory system. Interstitial fluid and plasma combined can be considered extracellular fluid vs. intracellular

The Cell Membrane - There are two factors that influence a molecule's ability to cross the cell membrane: it's size and it's lipid solubility.
