More than two-thirds of children with ADHD have one or more other medical issues.

Any disorder can coexist with ADHD, however some occur more commonly. Some ailments include oppositional defiant and behavioural problems, tic disorders (or Tourette syndrome), anxiety, depression, substance abuse, sleep disorders, and learning challenges.

When many illnesses coexist, academic and behavioural issues, as well as emotional ones, might become more challenging. A person may have these co-occurring conditions for the remainder of their lives. It is critical to have a comprehensive diagnostic and treatment plan that takes into account the current symptoms.

Causes Numerous investigations have been done. However, the precise causes of ADHD remain uncertain. However, because ADHD may run in families, researchers have discovered a strong genetic link. Over 20 genetic studies have shown that ADHD is strongly inherited. However, ADHD is a complex disorder caused by a number of interconnected genes.

Additional environmental factors may raise the probability of having ADHD: -Early childhood exposure to lead or pesticides -Low birth weight or preterm delivery -Brain damage.

While acknowledging that no single cause accounts for all occurrences of ADHD and that other factors may be involved, scientists are still looking into the precise relationship between ADHD and environmental factors.
