Tracy Mackey, Commissioner, NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission discusses, the safeguards and quality assurance measures were addressed in an issues paper published by the Royal Commission, seeking public views on how people with disabilities experience safeguards and what promotes quality in services.

Regarding observations on the changes and challenges in the sector, there has been a noticeable shift towards a more customer-centric approach, particularly with the advent of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). This market-driven model aims to empower individuals with disabilities by providing them with greater choice and control over their support services. As more people enter the scheme, new service delivery models have emerged, ultimately leading to improved outcomes for many participants.

Additionally, teenagers transitioning from out-of-home care have benefited significantly from the NDIS, receiving the support they previously lacked. These experiences highlight the transformative impact of the NDIS and underscore the importance of upholding the rights of people with disabilities in all aspects of decision-making.
