    25% of Ireland's manufacturing industries - Dublin region.         Why Manufacturing industries are attracted to Dublin region: Nodal point - Ireland's main port and airport. Direct government involvement - 60% of new industrial development in Dub in 1990's Low corporate tax - 12.5% & IDA help attract industries. Knowledge based MNCs attracted due to well-educated workforce. 80% of 3d level education ire located in region. Low age profile: 45% under 25. Industrial output per worker is 10% higher than  national average. Salaries tend to be higher.

Traditional; brewing (Guinness), distilling and printing (the Irish Independent) and Modern Growth Industries; internet technology (Google), pharmaceutical (Pfizer) and computer software (Intel). Traditional; Locate within city limits - close proximity to the port and good supply of local manual labour. Modern; outskirts of Dublin city - easily accessible and close to large labour pool in satellite towns. Manufacturing; widely dispersed. Region is dependent on foreign investment.  30,000 job losses in 2009.
