Pregunta Respuesta
Outline the components of the outer ear Pinnae, external auditory meatus (ear canal) ending at the tympanic membrane (ear drum)
What is the function of the Pinnae? The exterior visible flaps. Asymmetric shape helps to funnel sound into the ear canal. This also helps to disambiguate the locations of sound in space.
Outline the function of the external auditory meatus Length (approximately 1 inch) provides some protection of the ear drum and inner ear from foreign objects. The shape and diameter help amplify sound (that are in a particular frequency region) through resonance.
