              1. Muscle tension distinguishes GAD from normal, non-anxious people
            2. DSM Criteria
              1. Excessive anxiety and worry occurring more days than not for at least 6 months
                1. About several events/activities
                2. Difficulty controlling worry
                  1. At least 3 of the following:
                    1. Difficulty concentrating on other things; blank mind
                      1. Muscle tension
                        1. Restlessness; keyed up or on edge
                          1. Fatigue
                            1. Irritability
                              1. Difficulty sleeping
                              2. Significant distress or impairment
                                1. Not limited to one specific issue
                                2. Statistics
                                  1. 3.1% of population in a given year
                                    1. 5.7% meet criteria at some point in their life
                                      1. Similar rates around the world
                                        1. 66% females, 33% males

                                          1. Once developed it takes a chronic course
                                          2. Onset
                                            1. Onset is in early adulthood
                                              1. Typically after a stressor
