    1. 1945 Family Allowances
      1. For every child in school the family received 25p (not including the first born)
        1. Non contributory
          1. Paid by general taxation
        2. 1946 National Insurance (Industrial Injuries) Act
          1. Workers, employers and government paid 2p insurance fund
            1. When injured at work given £2.25 while they were off work
          2. 1946 National Insurance Act
            1. Everyone one in work paid 25p a week for a national insurance stamp. The employers and government also conibuted
              1. In return they received a range of benefits
                1. Maternity Benefit
                  1. Sickness Benefit
                    1. Unemployment Benefit
                      1. Widows' Pensions
                        1. Old Age Pensions
                          1. Death Grants
                      2. 1948 National Assistance Board
                        1. Covered those sick, disabled or old not part of the insurance scheme
                      3. Squalor
                        1. 1946 New Towns Act
                          1. To build 12 towns (4 in Scotland - East Kilbride)
                            1. Prefabs
                          2. 1947 Town and Country Planning Act
                            1. Gave local councils power to buy land for housing
                            2. 1949 Housing Act
                              1. Led to repair and modernization of existing homes
                              2. Level of homelessness didn't improve and supplies ran low
                              3. Idleness
                                1. To introduce policies that provide full employment
                                  1. Government nationalized certain industries
                                    1. For example; took over The Bank of England
                                      1. By 1950, 20% of the profits went to provide welfare benefits
                                  2. Disease
                                    1. 1946 National Health Service Act
                                      1. Paid for by National Insurance originally
                                        1. Doctors would be paid 15 shillings for every patient on their list
                                          1. Didn't work and 90% had to be paid from taxes
                                            1. Charges brought in for glasses, dental treatment (1950) and prescriptions (1951)
                                          2. When needed everyone received free
                                            1. Doctors
                                              1. Dentists
                                                1. Opticians
                                                  1. Medical treatment
                                                    1. Ambulance services
                                                      1. Maternity services and child welfare services
                                                      2. New modern hospitals to built
                                                        1. Increased Life expectancy
                                                          1. Aneurin Bevan, Health Minister
                                                        2. Ignorance
                                                          1. 1944 Butler Education Act
                                                            1. Leaving age raised to 15
                                                              1. Secondary school introduced for everyone
                                                                1. 11+ exam decided what secondary a child would go to
                                                                  1. Highest 25% of score's
                                                                    1. Grammar Schools
                                                                    2. Technical Schools
                                                                      1. Failed exam
                                                                        1. Secondary Modern Schools
                                                                        2. Lead to bullying
