Chapter One - Plot Summary

1) Nick returned to the Midwest & is writing a book about past evens which happened when he was on the East Coast of USA
2) He starts his narration with a self-analysis, trying to pin down important aspects of his character
3) He remembers his dads advice to show tolerance towards others and to reserve judgement

4) Nick Refers to Gatsby as ...

5) Nick displays certain AMBIVALENCE in his dedication to Gatsbys memory.
6) He is scornful of some aspects of Gatsby's character and behaviour.

8) Nick tells us a lil bit bout his family, he claims that he is descended from the Dukes of Buccleuch
9) His father runs the hardware business set up by his grandads bro during the American Civil War (1861-1865) when he avoided service
10) Nick was in the First World War (1914-1918) which caused considerable disruption in his life
