  1. Oxygenated blood enters the left atrium via the pulmonary vein from the lungs
    1. The atrio-ventricular valves only allow blood flow from the atrium to the ventricle
      1. Oxygenated blood is pumped to the body through the aorta
    2. De-oxygenated blood enters the right atrium via the vena cava from the body
      1. De-oxygenated blood is pumped to the lungs through the pulmonary artery
      2. The semi-lunar valves stop blood flowing back into the ventricles
