The great fire of London
  1. How did it spread so rapidly?
    1. the streets were narrow
      1. Houses were high and tightly packed together
        1. Houses were 'tinder dry' because of hot summers
          1. River Thames was low so there was little water to stop the fire
          2. How did people react?
            1. Ordinary people panicked although these people were not the poorest people and attempted to remove all personal possesions away from the path of the fire
              1. The poor people stayed in their houses until the last possible moment hoping the fire would not reach their homes befor running to rowing boats
            2. Was the great fire a total disaster for London?
              1. It was because it affected so many peoples lives.It could be argued that that was the case if we take to account the various articles published about people who have to flee their homes
                1. On a positive note we can take to account that it has brought us a more hygienic London and a better London
                  1. Gone were to be the crowded,narrow streets and over hanging houses and houses were to be rebuilt of stone and no more thatched roves and roves were to be built with slate
                    1. Streets were to be wider and a better sanitation system
                      1. The architect Sir Christopher Wren got given the task to build London's greatest landmarks
                        1. It also brought an end to the plague that infested London.
                          1. A cleaner more safer more solidly built city emerged after the great fire in 1666
