What is the definition of a wave?
The top of a wave is called what?
The bottom of a wave is called what?
The distance from one point on a wave to the same point on the next wave… often measured from crest to crest
The height of the wave from the EQUILIBRIUM line
What is A?
What is B?
What is C?
What is D?
What is E?
A type of wave where the disturbance is PERPENDICULAR to the motion of the wave
A type of wave where the disturbance is Parallel to the motion of the wave
What type of wave is shown?
Give an EXAMPLE of a wave that travels like the wave shown
What type of wave is shown?
Give an EXAMPLE of a wave that travels like the wave shown
The UNIT for wavelength
The UNIT for frequency
The UNIT for wavespeed
Definition of FREQUENCY
Physical wave that requires a medium (matter) to move through.
Physical wave that DOES NOT require a medium (matter) to move through.
A change in the direction of a wave at a boundary between two media so the wave returns to the medium from which it originated
When two waves OVERLAP to form a wave of greater, lower or same amplitude, occurs when two waves are traveling along the same medium
What type of INTERFERENCE is shown?
What type of INTERFERENCE is shown?
Waves which appear to be vibrating vertically without traveling horizontally. Created from waves with identical frequency and amplitude interfering with one another while traveling in opposite directions.
The frequency or frequencies at which an object tends to vibrate with when hit, struck, plucked, strummed or somehow disturbed is known as what?
The happens when the frequency of a nearby object matches
the natural frequency of a vibrating
system and results in increased amplitude.
Give 3 examples of RESONANCE we talked about in class
What kind of wave is sound? Pick 2.
What determines the PITCH of sound?
What determines the VOLUME of sound?
What is the DOPPLER EFFECT?
If you scream in space, will anyone hear you? Explain :)
How would you change the speed that sound travels?
What type of wave is LIGHT? Pick 2
List radiation type on the electromagnetic spectrum from LOWEST to HIGHEST Energy
List the colors of visible light from LOWEST to HIGHEST energy
Which type of radiation has HIGHER frequency .... radio waves or ultraviolet? How do you know?
Which type of radiation has longer wave lengths ... radio waves or visible light? How do you know?
What speed do all electromagnetic waves travel at?
