Question Answer
Study one thing at time; focus all your attention on one topic at a time. There is little point in jumping around, trying to cover all bases. By focusing all your attention on one thing at a time your levels of retention will be much higher.
“Those who do not study are only cattle dressed up in men's clothes” -Chinese Proverb "We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then, is not an act, but a habit" -Aristotle
Are you a morning lark or a night owl? To be more effective you should discover when you’re most productive. Studying is hard enough already so always play to your strengths!
Don’t panic! While it is OK to be nervous, freaking out will only hamper your study. Get in to the mindset that your start an exam with a 100% of the marks, not zero!
“If you want to live a happy life, tie it to a goal, not to people or things.” ― Albert Einstein “It always seems impossible until its done.” -Nelson Mandela
While having tombs of notes may feel like you’ve studied a lot, the closer you get to an exam the more concise your notes should be. The knowledge should be in your head, not just on paper.
Listening to relaxing music such as classical or jazz on a low volume can relieve some of the boredom of studying. So, make sure you play some music while you study!
Keep up the social life. You may be tempted to neglect your friends and hobbies when you are studying, make sure you don’t. For the sake of your sanity make time to socialise.
It may be easy to overlook but try as best you can to keep your handwriting legible in an exam. The examiner will subconsciously thank you for it!
When studying you should use the 45- 15 minute rule. This rule states that you should only study for 45 minutes, then rest for 15 minutes before continuing. Your brain can only really stay focused for 45 minutes at a time before it turns to mush. Take short breaks frequently. Your memory retains the information that you study at the beginning and the end better than what you study in the middle.
If you have a big test or project coming up, you should reverse engineer from the due date. In other words, plan backwards! Make this a habit for all exams or projects. Doing so will ensure a less stressful end of term and more successful results!
For students preparing to enter college/university, don't get ahead of yourself! You shouldn't be overly focused on where you’re going or which course you’re doing. Your main focus should be on the exams, and doing the best you can. Do this and you will have plenty of choices down the line.
