When did the blitz happen It happened between 7th of September 1942 and the 21st of may 1941.
Who's plan was it to destroy the RAF? It was Adolf Hitler and Hermann goring's because their plan to invade Britain was failing.
When did Germany start to bomb civilian targets? They started on the 7th of September 1940 the aim was to try and attempt to get Britain to surrender into submission.
where did the German bombers attack? They attacked British cities,ports and industrial areas this was known as the blitz.
What areas of Britain were targeted? London was the main target of bombing raids but Birmingham,Southampton,Sheffield, Manchester,Liverpool,Hull and also Glasgow were also targeted.
When was the devastating attack on Coventry? It happened on the 14th of November and their were 500 German bombers dropping 500 tons of high explosives and nearly 900 incendiary bombs on the city in ten hours of relentless bombardment.
What did people do during the raid? Part 1 First of all if an approaching attack was coming they would be warned by loud sirens then they would stop what they were doing and run for shelter,leading them to shelter would be air raid warden volunteers who would also be putting out fires bravely risking their lives during the blitz.
part 2 many civilians built Anderson shelters in their back garden which were half underground which were made from corrugated iron sheets bolted together which wouldn't save them from a direct blast but would from nearby ones and shrapnel.
What is another form of shelter people used? If people didn't have a garden they they would build a Morrison shelters.
Where else did people hide? People would run to communal shelters like the underground because its far from the surface?
why was life horrible during the blitz? Because as well as the constant threat of bombs families were split up as most children were evacuated to the country side also they had to ration food and clothing because most shops had been bombed meaning their was a shortage of supply's.
why did blackouts have an impact? Blackouts enforced huge bombers in the sky for danger to civilians below moving about at night.
What happened in the end? In the ened the german war machiene had failed to break British Morale so instead strengthening determination to defeat Nazi germany the blitz ended.
when did the blitz end? It ended after May 1941 as Germany then focused on invading Russia in the east overall the raids killed 43,000 civilians.
what was the aim? To reduce cilvilain Morale
Why was London a good target? Because of the English channel was only 22 miles long and if a jet was traveling at 300mph it would only take Germans about 20 minuets to travel their making it and easy target to attack and reatreat.
