| what do electrons do? | they move around the nucleus, and a re negatively charged and move in shells(energy levels) around the nucleus. |
| what does 'number of protons equals number of electrons' mean? | it means atoms have no charge so are neutral. the charge on the electrons is the same as the charge on the protons-but opposite. this means the number of protons always equal the number of electrons in an atom. |
| basic atom facts | atoms are tiny. but the nucleus is really tiny. if you imagine a whole atom as the size of a football stadium, its nucleus would only be the size of a marble. |
