KS3 History Year 7 How did the Tollund Man die? Why was Julius Caesar murdered? How did castles help King William control England? Were the peasants justified in their revolt?
Where, when and by whom was the TM found? He was found in a peat bog in Tollund Fen, Denmark. In May of 1950. By two men digging for peat to burn.
How old was TM, and what's the evidence for this? he was in his 20s. we know this because he still had his wisdom teeth and had healthy organs.
What did the TM wear? he was naked but had a skin cap on, he also had an iron ring and a rope noose around his neck.
Why might he have been sacrificed? because he was buried during spring near the spring goddess and he wasn't cremated, unlike most Germans, he was buried.
when, where and who murdered JC he was murdered on the 15th March BCE, in the Senate by 60 senators.
Who was JC? he was a Roman Emperor and a successful army general.
Who led the 60 senators that killed JC? Brutus and Cassius, two dear friends to JC
Why might he have been murdered out of jealousy? because he had many affairs with women and had more power over Rome than the senators.
Why might he have been killed out of anger? because he treated his soldiers unfairly and
Why might he have been killed out of his dismissal to the democracy? because he declared himself 'ruler of Rome for life' and received honours only kings got.
How did castles show strength and power? Because they were big and looked intimidating
Why did William want castles to intimidate? to warn the English that the Normans were powerful
Why were castles built of stone? to show that the Normans were here to stay
Why did William build castles? because he knew if he built them properly then they could help him control England
The castles had many features which helped prevent attacker, some of them are: a moat, a portcullis, columns, toilets that empty into the moat, a dungeon, crenelations and a secret escape tunnel
what are crenelations and portcullises? crenelations are architectural designs that shoot arrows and portcullises are a layer of protection over the gate.
Why did peasants revolt? because they were forced to work double the amount they used to, but received the same wages and owed the same taxes
why else were the peasants angry? because the tax collector showed up unannounced, they 'belonged to their lords' and they didn't have the right to ask for more money.
Why might have the peasants not been justified in their revolt? because the country had just returned from war and didn't have enough money to double their wages
what should the king do in this position? abolish serfdom and give the peasants equal rights.
