What was the Early Modern Age marked by? By the fall of Constatinople and the Discovery of America and it lasted until the French Revolution.
What did the authoritarian monarchs do to exert their power over the feudal lord? They used various methods: - The creation of a permanent army; - Application of common laws in all the territories; - Creation of a centralized administration;; - Creation of a diplomatic system to maintain relations with other countries (marrying their daughters and son); - The rise of taxes to finance their activities.
Which were the important kingdoms in this period? Spain, France, Russia and England
The 16th centuary of economic rise or descent? Economic rise
What was the main economic activitie? The agriculture, but the trade grew because of the exchange of European products for those from Asia and Africa.
Why was there a trade increase? Because there was a population increase so they needed more agricultural products and crafts. The cities were very powerful since all the artisans (trade) were concentrated there.
Why did the banks became important? Because of their improved system and new payment and lending methods (it was easier to make transactions).
How was the society divide? Describe each state. - Nobility: still with privileges, but less political power; - Clergy: still with privileges, but less political power; - Peasants/ common workers: better economic situation, no longer serfs; - Bourgeoisie: divided into high (better economic situation and power and social influence) and petite (were craftworkers and modest merchants who often came into conflict with high bourgeoisie because of the participation in the government of the cities).
Why was this dinasty union between Castilla y Aragón? Did they had the same laws? Because Isabel and Fernando married, but each kingdom had it owns laws and institutions.
What institutions did they create to bring peace to the kingdom? Describe each one. - The Holy Brootherhood - a judicial force to fight against bandicts and abuses of the nobility - The Royal Council - the highest judicial body and the royal bank; - They appointed magistrates to stablish royal authority in the towns and took power from the nobles. - They created a permanent army.
