how did white propaganda poster effect people? played on peoples feelings making them think that if you were a young man,'joining the army' was the right thing to do.
how did black propaganda effect people? tried to create hatred towards the Germans.
why did the government wanted people hating Germany? they hoped that if people hated Germany and its people they were more likely to agree with the war and join the fight.
what was the result of the propaganda's? by January 1916, a total of 2.5 million men had agreed to fight.
the British government thought that fighting along sides and friends and neighbours rather than strangers would encourage people to join up.Were they right? yes; rival towns competed with each other to prove how patriotic they were and formed 'pals battalions'. Brothers,cousins,friends and workmates enlisted together.
why did the government made a conscription solution? the flood of volunteers slowed to a trickle.with thousands dead and many more returned home disabled.The government needed more men to join the army.
what is meant by conscription solution? that any men aged between 18 and 41 could be forced to join the army.
what are conscientious objectors? men who refused to join the army because they believed that the war was always wrong.
give another name for conscientious objectors? conchies , there were about 16,000 men
what are the reasons that made people refuse to fight? _political beliefs(saw that the war is a way of Britain increasing its empire) _religious beliefs _Absolutists
what is meant by absolutists? people who refused to help Britain win the war. Around 1500 were sent to prison for the entire war.some were even sentenced to death, but executions never took place.
