Plato and Aristotle 19th century = emerged as a discipline, has roots in experimental psychology.
William James? 1875 - 1st experimental psych lab (Harvard). 1890 - principles of psychology book published.
1883 Stanley Hall Lab (John Hopkins Uni).
Le Bon and Crowd Behaviour 1895 - Observed negative behaviour (France). Lose of 'sense' of self-awareness & accountability, due to being in a group.
Triplett's study of competition 1898, the presence of others = outperformance (enhanced).
Banality of Evil People conform PASSIVELY and UNTHINKINGLY to both the instructions and the roles that authorities provide.
Social Identity Groups are central to our sense of WHO we are. Internalising = as part of a group 'us'.
