Who + where? Greek / Bulgarian border. Petrich.
Why? After ongoing territorial disputes and border clashes, a Greek captain was shot after crossing the border trying to retrieve his dog! Greeks sent a small force across the border in retaliation.
What happened? The League orders both to cease hostilities + Greeks to withdraw (after over 50 killed) They do. Greeks also ordered to pay £45,000 in compensation to Bulgarian.
Outcome + lessons learned? Dispute resolved (although Greeks complain of double standards) Illustrated how volatile the Balkans were + how difficult it was to apply self-determination
