Shylock	Jew of Venice. A moneylender treated badly by Antonio and his friends. When Antonio fails to repay his debt, Shylock seeks his revenge.
Jessica	Shylock's daughter. She runs away with her Christian lover, Lorenzo, stealing her father's money.
Tubal	Jewish man and Shylock's friend. He supports Shylock when Jessica runs away.
Lancelot Gobbo	The clown, servant to Shylock and later Bassanio. He helps Jessica run away with Lorenzo.
