Scutage originally paid If a landholder coud not meet the quota of knights required cartae baronum 1166 - enabled him to extend scutage 1168 & 1172 henry raised amount but having subjects in debt was way of controlling them

the forest vast lands were taken by the king for hunting but could encompass villages & towns punishments for killing game could result In dealth fines - cutting down trees, clearing land for cattle/ crops, encroaching on forest land or rights sold to graze animals, cut trees, hunt animals
the Exchequer exchequer official could determine if the kings demesne was being well managed any money claimed by sheriffs for maintenance of crown lands had to be explained
