Piramid Relationship of Strategic Elements
Stakeholders are all individuals or groups who have an active stake in the project and can potentially impact, either positively or negatively, its development.
Internal Stakeholders include: • Top management • Accountant • Other functional managers • Project team members who works there
External Stakeholders include: • Clients • Competitors • Suppliers • Environmental, political, consumer, and other intervenor groups who doesn´t work there
Organizational Structure Consists of three key elements: 1. Connected formal reports 2. – individuals are in groups in departments 3. System has a good design for effective communication/coordination
Whats are the 3 types of organization structures • Functional organizations • Project organizations • Matrix organizations
• Functional organizations – group of people performing similar activities (Accounting, Marketing) work in same departments
• Project organizations group people into project teams on temporary assignments -time limited
• Matrix organizations mix of functional/project create a dual hierarchy in which functions and projects are combined
What is a Project Manager? • Describe to the team members what tasks need to be done per plan. • Maintain scope control of the project. • Communicate project status as it evolves aka bus driver
What is a Sponsor? The sponsor is the key person or group who has secured financing for the project and signs off upon project completion. The project manager manages the expectations of the sponsor and secures the signoff signature so the project team can move on to other projects.
What is a Functional Manager? functional manager has a primary interest in running some business division or department and only secondary – if any – interest in a project that often pulls people away from their regular jobs in that division or department
What is Senior Management (Sponsor)? senior management is the management that works for the sponsor and helps accomplish the goals of the company.
What are Team Members? Team members are people who actually do the work that goes towards meeting the goals of the project.
Steps in a stakeholder analysis:
Steps to Identify the Stakeholders and their Interests: 1. Are they for or against the project? The stakeholders who are for the project and can influence the outcome are the ones you like. You want to encourage them.
Are they for or against the project? Can they influence the outcome? SWOT Analysis. A strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) analysis of each stakeholder to find out these questions
Are they knowledgeable or ignorant about the project? think about where they are now and where you want them to be
