Attraction to the Nazi party. The party was opposed to: 1) The Weimar politicians 2) Democracy 3) Jews
Hitler forced a leadership contest (July 1921). Hitler became leader and chose some supporters to help him. 1) Rudolph Hess - wealthy, academic, became deputy. 2) Herman Goering - young, dashing, wealthy FWW fighter pilot. 3) Julius Stretcher - publisher. 4) Ernest Jones - scar faced, bull necked army officer.
SA - private army (formed in 1921) -many recruited from unemployed ex-soldiers. -dressed in brown uniforms. known as Brownshirts. -paraded in streets to show force -1922, numbered 800 - impressed people with organisation and power -controlled crowds and opposition meetings. -strengthened Hitler, they were obedient to him
Set up permanent office in Munich. Hitler chose close friend Rudolph Schuisler. (January 1920) -meetings were more organised -better advertised membership -funds grew -adopted the swastica
Hitler's personal appeal -rehearsed speeches carefully *began slow and quiet, build up to rant *heavy use of gestures, waving arm -publicity photos and painting -star speaker 31/40 between Nov. 1919-1920 -membership grew (1000 in june 1920 and 3000 by the end of 1920)

Awards for having children, due the concern of birth rates. -Motherhood cross (awarded to women with the most amount of children 8=gold, 6=silver, 4=bronze. -when a couple were married they received a Government loan. 1 child allowed you to keep 25%, 2=50%, 4=100% -state gave loans for more children
Were workers better under the Nazis? -reduced unemployment form 6 million to 302,000 -wages improved
Were workers worse under the Nazis? -Jews couldn't find jobs -work hours increased -accident and illness rose by 150%
How were the Jews prosecuted? (1) APRIL 1933 - banned from Gov. jobs SEPT 1933 - banned from inheriting land 1934 - banned from parks and pools -yellow benches for Jews MAY 1935 - banned from the army 1935 - took away citizenship making it easy to arrest them
How were the Jews prosecuted? (2) MARCH 1938 - had to register belongings so the Gov. can confiscate it easier JULY 1938 - identity cards so it is easy to arrest 9-10 NOV 1938 - used SA&SS to attack local synagogues & houses of Jews -ordered papers to print articles condemning Paris shooting.
