the cells that make up the bodies of animals, plants, or even the
single cell of paramecium have an estraordinary variety of
different shapes and sizes, but they all have a similar structure
cytoplasm. Sll of the contents of the cell,
other than the nucleus. it looks like jelly
and contains the cell's organelles which
carry out various different function
cell membrane or plasma membrane.
this is a fine layer that surrounds the
cell. it lets certain substances into, and
our of, the cell but stops others
nucleus. this is the largest and most
visible structure inside the cell. it
contains DNA, the genetic material.
animal and plant cells have a nucleus
tht is separated from the cytoplasm by
a membrane. we call these ekaryotic
cells
in bacteria, the DNA and organelles
are not enclosed in a membrane.

are called prokaryotic cells

means taht we can only see them if they

their single cell is all it needs ro keep it alive. this
means that just one cell can carry out all of the
functions that are characteristic of living things:
movement, reproduction, interaction,growth, etc.....
multicellular
most plants and animals are made of large
numbers of cells. They are multicelluclar
organisms and these are their characteristics
they are nearly always macroscopic and can e seen with the
naked eye. they grow by multiplying their number of cells and
can reach enormous sizes, though some are very small
their many cells share the work of keeping
the organism alive and each cell is
specialised for one particular function
