          1. nucleus. this is the largest and most visible structure inside the cell. it contains DNA, the genetic material. animal and plant cells have a nucleus tht is separated from the cytoplasm by a membrane. we call these ekaryotic cells
            1. in bacteria, the DNA and organelles are not enclosed in a membrane. these cells are much smaller and are called prokaryotic cells

                1. paramecium and amoeba, found in puddles and ponds, are unicellular organisms, with the following characteristcs
                  1. they are nearly always microscopic. this means taht we can only see them if they are magnified under a microscope
                    1. their single cell is all it needs ro keep it alive. this means that just one cell can carry out all of the functions that are characteristic of living things: movement, reproduction, interaction,growth, etc.....

                      1. most plants and animals are made of large numbers of cells. They are multicelluclar organisms and these are their characteristics
                        1. they are nearly always macroscopic and can e seen with the naked eye. they grow by multiplying their number of cells and can reach enormous sizes, though some are very small
