Best Classroom Management

  1. Classroom Arrangement strategies

    • Classroom arrangement is the key to maintain discipline; remember to keep in mind:
      • * Avoid having spots where concentration can be missed.
      • * Teachers need to have free space to move around the classroom.
      • * All learning elements must be easy to see.
      • * Classroom enviroment should be easy to accomodate acording to the activity proposed.
    • Establishing rules of conduct.
      • Working together, teachers and students will determine and set simple rules that must be follow during their school time.
    • Consequences VS Punishment
      • Consequences are the result of misbehave; these allow students to take in account resulting situations depending of their own acts which will be lessons for future conducts.
      • Punishment is not a proper way to correct a wrong action. This prevents students to learn and take decisions regarding their own acts; instead will learn to avoid acting wrong just to escape from the punishment.
    • Preventing Disruptions; by maintaining students concentrated on the learning process. Teaches will need to:
      • * Let students know that what they do during the class is known.
      • * Improve a "multi-tasking" hability to stay focused on different activities during classes.
      • * Keep a nice and mood study enviroment informing students when their attention is little or null.
      • * Stay focused on having all students working and interested on the activity worked at the time.
      • * As students might get bored or tired, allow them to practice a wide amount of activities that can be perform sitted on their desks.
  2. Psychology of problem behavior.

    • There is a reason why students misbehave.
      • Children don't just act inappropiate because they want to and teachers must have the hability to determine what is causing this conduct; they might be tired, hungry or worried about something that is going on at home. It will be easy for the teacher to find out what is causing the situation by observing factors like: time when the situation appears, activity proposed (perhaps some students did not understand instructions), or just a restless student which need an extra reinforce on proper behave.
    • How to change from an inappropiate demeanor to an appropiate one.
      • As a misbehavior can appear as a result of a frustrated effort, the best way to help students to resolve that is to provide the opportunity to agree consequences and/or rewards for their behavior. It is also very important to remove every distractor at the classroom and use humor at classes in order to gain students attention.
    • When to intervene.
      • The most important thing is to try to understand why is that behavior happening and then offer support to try to correct the inadequate behavior; once knowing that, theachers will have the information needed to apply different strategies and tools to help students to modify their behavior.
  3. Teacher Management Styles.

    • There are four different teaching styles:
      • Authoritative which performs stricts rules but promotes students independence; this allows them the chance to ask questions, and to interact and practice with their partners.
      • Indifferent teachers are not interested on the active development in the classroom, as a result, students are nos focus and the behavior might not be even close to the desired.
      • Laissez-faire teachers have little to null discipline in the classroom, they accept every interruption or misbehavior as a student needs of attention and acceptance.
      • Authoritarian which is so estrict in his/her class that students do not have the change to interact and practice.
  4. Encouraging student success despite the odds.

    • Teachers are in charge on many different kids which have a wide range of family situations, personalities, and challenges; as their teachers the most valuable thing that can be done is to get to know every one of them and provide support, understanding and care so they can feel more confident and motivated to make choices regarding their studies and behavior.
