The process of developing and implementing various sets of instructions to enable a
computer to do a certain task. These instructions are considered computer programs and
help the computer to operate smoothly. The language used to program computers is not
understood by an untrained eye. Computer programming continues to be a necessary
process as the Internet continues to expand.
History of Programming
For 50 years, computer programmers were writing code. New technologies continue to
emerge, develop and mature at a rapid pace. Now there are over 2,500 documented
programming languages! O'Reilly produced a poster called history of programming
languages, which draws more than 50 programming languages in a multi-layered, with the
timeline and color code.
