GOVERNMENT AND EDUCATION IN FINLAND

The law states that education is compulsory and free for all children from 7 to 16 years.

  1. Education mus be imparted at schools near home of choldren.
  2. Municipalities are responsible of the transport for children who live more than five kilometers from school.
  3. EDUCATION LEVELS
    1. PRE SCHOOL
      1. It´s not an obligation for all children.
        Age required from 6 to 7 years olf.
    2. PRIMARY SCHOOL
      1. It's Complulsory for all children.
        education of 9 years in total for all school-age children ranging between 7 and 16 years old.
        Children are at school only 5 or 6 hours. They don't have homeworks at home.
    3. HIGH SCHOOL
      1. Education of 3 years in total for teenagers ranging between 16 to nineteen years old.
        The curriculum includes compulsory , specialized and applied studies.
        Students take a final test to finish their highschool.
    4. HIGHER EDUCATION
      1. Youlng people can choose.
        SUPERIOR COLLEGES
        They are private or Municipalities.
        UNIVERSITIES
        They belong to the State.
