The PAST SIMPLE

Annotations:

•         They end in -ed (base +ed)

1. copy - copied ; study -studied, etc.

   Annotations:

   •   final Y on base changes into i+ed
2. translate- translated ; complete-completed

   Annotations:

   •  verbs ending in e : They ONLY add "d"
3. jump - jumped ; cook - cooked

Annotations:

•     They change completely         (different from base) OR they simply DO NOT add -ed at the end

1. hit - hit ; cut -cut

   Annotations:

   • They are irregular because they do not add -ed at the end of the verb base when they are in the PAST TENSE
2. draw - drew ; begin -began
