Personally, I thought the book
was amazing. I was very
emotional when Gus was in the
car park, as well as when
Hazel was rushed to hospital. I
cried when Gus died and was
crying for a long time. I think
John Green is an amazing
author and i thought The Fault
In Our Stars was very
emotion-filled and was very
heart-warming.
INTERESTING TECHNIQUES
the book is written in first-person,
which allows the reader to connect
closely with the main character, Hazel
John Green uses irony to surprise the reader by each outcome of each
action. It was also used to add humour to a character and add drama.
An example is how
Hazel wishes to
leave no mark on
the world,
however Gus
wants to leave as
big of a mark on
the world as
possible.
John Green tries to show that they are just normal kids, with
cancer. He shows this by having Gus and Isaac play video games.
he also symbolises death, by Gus having a
cigarette. Augutus never actually lights the cigarette,
and so he is showing how by lighting it it would
cause death, so he is literally holding death between
his lips.
John Green uses flash backs in his writing. Like when he has
flashbacks to when Hazel had friends and went to school.
He uses personification to
give non-human objects,
human like features. One of
these was when Gus says,
"Pain demands to be felt."
