Types of bonding
  1. Covalent
    1. Non-metal atoms
      1. Covalentely bonded atoms are called molecules
        1. Non-metal atoms gain electrons to form stable noble gas electron arrangements
          1. Both non-metals wanting to bond can't both gain electrons so they share
            1. Therefore, covalent bonds are described as a shared pair of electrons
              1. Ie. the positive nuclei in each of the atoms attract to each of the atoms' negative electrons
        2. Metallic
          1. Metallic bonding is described as delocalised electrons floating in a sea of positive nuclei
          2. Ionic
            1. Metal + Non-metal atoms = IONIC BOND
              1. Metals lose electrons and become Positive Ions
                1. There are then more protons than electrons
                2. Non-metals gain electrons and become Negative ions
                  1. There are then more electrons than protons
                  2. Ions have the same number of protons and neutrons as atoms but different numbers of electrons giving them charges without changing the nuclei
                    1. Ionic bonds are described as the attraction between oppositely charged ions forming a giant ionic lattice
                      1. Think. . . . Pie!
                    2. Diatomic
                      1. A MOLECULE containing only 2 atoms is diatomic
                        1. They are covalent bonds
                          1. Di = 2 Atomic = Atoms
                            1. There are 7 diatomic elements
                              1. Hydrogen
                                1. Nitrogen
                                  1. Fluorine
                                    1. Oxygen
                                      1. Iodine
                                        1. Chlorine
                                          1. Bromine
                                            1. REMEMBER. . . Have, No, Fear, Of, Ice, Cold, Beer
