THE OPERATING SYSTEM
  1. TCP/IP Layers
    1. Application
      1. Group of applications requiring network communications
      2. Transport
        1. Establishes the connection between applications on differnt hosts
        2. Network
          1. Responsible for creating packets that move across a network
          2. Data link
            1. Responsible for creating frames that move across a network
            2. Physical
              1. The transceiver that drives the signals on the network
            3. Types of Topology
              1. Bus
                1. Cost effective, easy to add more computers, quick set up
                  1. Data collisions are more liekly
                  2. Ring
                    1. Data is quickly transferred, prevents network collisions
                      1. If there is a problem with the main cable the network will shut down
                      2. Star
                        1. Good performance, better security
                          1. Expensive, extra hardware neede like a hub or switch
                          2. Mesh
                            1. Manages high amount of traffic, a failure of one device does not cause break in network
                              1. Expensive, bulk wiring, building and maintaining is difficult
                            2. DNS server
                              1. This is when the DNS checks the local cache to see if the IP address of what a person has typed in matches with anything inside it. If not then it will go down the hierarchy to each DNS server to check if there is a match. When it is found it will go back up the hierarchy and stored in the local cache. After that the web-page is loaded up
