Greek art periods

Archaic
1. Vase painting was an important art form. The techniques used in this period were:
  1. The black figure technique that consisted in scratching incisions that revealed black silhouette designs and backgrounds of orange clay.
  2. The red figure technique, where a black background was painted on with brushes.
Classical
1. The Greek pottery dramatically changed, the scenes shown on the Greek pottery included pictures of Greek mythology, everyday life and 5th century BC comedians.
2. Some of the most impressive bronze sculptures were made, The sculptures gradually became more realistic. One technique was the contrapposto pose.
3. In arquitecture,, the Corinthian columns started to popularize.
4. Freezes, carved and relief sculptures were incorporated into temple designs.
Hellenistic
1. Hellenistic art was increasingly used for propaganda purposes. Art was recognized as a career and some schools of art were founded.
2. In this period, two of the most importants Greek sculptures were created: The Venus of Milo and The Winged Victory of Samothrace.

Geometric
1. Ceramic vessels were used as funerary items. These vessels were decorated with geometric figures (here the name of the period).
