Module 2.1
Ionic Equations
Show only the ions involved in the reaction
Only ionic substances dissolved in a solvent (aq) split into ions
Solid ionic substances will not separate into individual ions
Acids are classed as ionic because they split into their components in a solution
Molecular Ions
Nitrate= NO3, 1- charge
Hydroxide= OH, 1- charge
Carbonate= CO3, 2- charge
Sulphate= SO4, 2- charge
Ammonium= NH4, 1+ charge
Ideal Gas Equation: p= Pressure (Pa), V= Volume (m3), n= Moles, R= Gas constant (8.31JK1-mol1-), T= Temperature (K)
Metals in Group 1 will always have a +1 charge
Non-metals are negatively charged ions
Avagadro's Number: (6.02 x 10^23). This is a constant.
Types of Reactions
Acid + Base ---> Salt + Water
Acid + Alkali ---> Salt + Water
Acid + Carbonate ---> Salt + Water + Carbon Dioxide
Redox= Reduction and Oxidation
