A CT scanner uses x-rays to produce an image of a slice or cross section of the
body // the patient lies on a bed or table which slides into a cyclinder containing
the scanner // the scanner rotates around the body emitting x-rays // the radiate
which passes through some tissues and is reglected off others is analysed by the
slices // these slices can be processed into a 2D or 3D structure of the body.
CT scanning can be useful for detecting and
examining conditions affecting the brain, such as the
damage caused by head injury, tumor's and strokes.
Advantages: images produced
are much clearer and more
detailed // can produce images
of structures encased in bone
(the brain // produces digital
images which are stored on a
computer so can be analysed
digitallym
As with X-rays radiation is
potentially harmful / risk of
cancer // high cost of
equipment // large machine
// can feel claustrophobic
