Resource summary

Masses of atoms and Moles
  1. Mass of Atoms
    1. The Relative mass of protons and neutrons = 1
      1. Atomic No. = No. Protons = No. Electrons
        1. Mass No. = No. protons +No. of neutrons
          1. No. Neutrons = mass no. - atomic no.
          2. Isotope
            1. Atoms of the same element with different number of neutrons
              1. therefore different mass number
              2. same no. of protons and electrons
            2. RAMs and Moles
              1. We compare the masses of atoms by comparing them relative to atoms of carbon 12
                1. One Mole of any substance is its RAM in grams
                  1. Work out the RAM of a compound by adding up the RAMs of the elements in it
                    1. The ratio is shown by the elements formula
                      1. eg. H2 + O -> H2O (1x 2) + 16 -> 18
                      2. RAM = Relative formula mass
